Research Permit Application

Use this application form to apply for Research Permits required under the Wildlife Act 1975 and Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988.

Note that you can use this form to apply for both permits, however you will be issued separate permits under each Act.

Protected Flora Species

If you intend to take flora from any land managed by Parks Victoria, you will also need to apply through  ParkConnect   for an Access Agreement. 

If you have permission from the landholder, no permit is required to take Protected Flora from private land for research purposes.

Listed fish, freshwater crayfish, and aquatic invertebrate species

If you intend to take listed fish/crayfish or aquatic invertebrates from any land managed by Parks Victoria  you will also need to apply through  ParkConnect  for an Access Agreement.

In addition to the permit under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988, approval may be required under the Fisheries Act 1995. Please contact the  Victorian Fisheries Authority .

Animal Ethics Approval

Animal ethics approval may be required for activities that include; collection of biometric data, tagging and attaching tracking devices, blood / tissue sampling, trapping, attaching telemetry devices, take from the wild and humane euthanasia.  For further information visit  Animal Welfare Victoria.

Proposed Research Sites

Please note, a research permit approved under the Wildlife Act 1975 does not convey the right of entry to any property or site (including public or Crown Land) to conduct authorised research activities.   Prior permission from the landowner or manager is required.

Please note, a research permit approved under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988 does not convey the right of entry to any property or site (including public or Crown Land) to conduct authorised research activities. Prior permission from the landowner or manager is required.

If your research involves keeping for research purposes, translocation and/or take from the wild, you must include details on the location where wildlife will be kept below.

If your research involves keeping fish for research purposes, translocation and/or take from the wild, you must include details on the location where fish will be kept below.

If your research involves taking and keeping flora listed as Threatened, you must include relevant location details below. Location details are not required for the keeping or taking of Protected flora. If you propose to translocate any Threatened or Protected flora species, please provide location details below.

Please also include the street address of any location where flora specimens will be kept for the duration of the project.

If you intend to conduct research in a Reference Area as specified under the Reference Areas Act 1978 please list details in the box below.
